A traffic alert has been issued for eastbound Interstate 8 after a multi-vehicle accident occurred during heavy fog Tuesday morning, blocking lanes, the California Highway Patrol said. The pileup occurred on eastbound I-8 west of Tavern Road shortly after 7:15 a.m., according to an online CHP log.
Six cars were involved in the crash, which began when the driver of a small sedan ran into the back of a truck towing a trailer in heavy fog, said CHP Officer Jared Grieshaber. Other cars ran into the initial vehicles in a chain-reaction crash, he said. Three people were taken to the hospital, one with major injuries and two with minor injuries, he said. A traffic alert was issued shortly after 7:30 a.m.
