A strike by the United Auto Workers at Ford Motor Co.’s Kentucky Truck Plant has the potential to affect engine production at a factory in Ontario.

The 7.3-litre engine, dubbed Godzilla, and its smaller derivative, the 6.8-litre engine, power the Ford Super Duty pickup. But, Unifor Local 200 President John D’Agnolo, who represents about 900 hourly workers at the engine plant, said the effects of the UAW strike could be felt within a week. It depends on how many empty engine racks and how much unused storage the automaker has at the moment. D’Agnolo said his members would likely work until supply reaches its capacity.

The UAW on Oct. 11 expanded its nearly four-week-old strike against the Detroit Three to include Ford’s largest and most profitable assembly lines.
