) things of the past, replaced by surprisingly techy affordable SUVs one size down from a Toyota RAV4. In many cases, they represent the entry point to an automaker's lineup.is among the most crowded in the industry and 15 of these small SUVs start around $25,000 or less. Of those 15, most carry over unchanged from 2023. The four assembled here—the Buick Envista, the Chevrolet Trax, the Kia Seltos, and the Subaru Crosstrek—represent the newest models in the class.
The Seltos also has the nicest rear seating space of the bunch. Although it offers the least legroom in practice, headroom is plentiful and rear passengers get the same swanky patterned green leatherlike seating and sweet speaker grilles, plus there's a pair of USB-C charge ports. Rear-seat passengers will also appreciate center climate control vents and a flip-down armrest between the seats with a couple of cupholders; rear passengers in the Chevy and Buick won't be so lucky.
Both GM cars have the same 8.0-inch digital instrument cluster and 11.0-inch infotainment displays, though the layout isn't executed as well as in the Kia. The two displays share one continuous housing, but as senior features editor Kristen Lee pointed out, there appears to be as much bezel as there is screen. In both vehicles, the layout gives the same impression you're using one of those unbreakable tablets for kids.
Subaru's audio system sounds notably tinnier than those from the rest of the bunch, too. Buyers who appreciate strong bass and a fuller sound should opt for a higher Crosstrek trim with the Harman Kardon setup.
