Police are hunting for a dark-coloured Mercedes dual-cab ute seen on the Pacific Highway on the NSW mid-north coast on Thursday.
Four separate incidents along the major north-south artery were reported as taking place between 1.40am and 5.40am at various locations in the Manning-Great Lakes and Kempsey regions.Other vehicles were reportedly targeted by the ute while travelling on the highway around Kundabung, north of Port Macquarie, and south towards Coolongolook.NSW acting assistant commissioner Scott Tanner told Sydney radio 2GB the vehicle was last seen in the Fernbank Creek area near Port Macquarie.
He said extra resources were being sent to the area from Sydney and the northern region to help locate the ute. Police also said a body had been found on Thursday morning at a property on Fernbank Creek Rd near the Pacific Highway outside Port Macquarie after a welfare check. A crime scene has been established and investigations are under way but the death has not been confirmed as being linked to the shooting incidents.
