Gardaí have arrested 10 men after foiling a suspected plot to smuggle millions of euros worth of drugs into Ireland.
Sources say an Irishman was driving the lorry when it was stopped near Skibbereen early yesterday, while two Dutch nationals were in the SUV.We have also established that seven Spanish men were in the campervan when it was stopped by armed officers. The operation was ongoing last night and it is understood no drugs have been seized.
It’s believed the plan was to rendezvous with another ship off the coast, take drugs from it and bring to the pier, for onward transportation. The 10 men were being held last night under anti-gangland laws, which means they can be detained for up to a week. “During the course of the operation, 10 males were arrested. All 10 males continue to be detained at Garda Station in County Cork under Organised Crime legislation.
