Adverts which promote ‘high carbon’ products like non-electric cars or airlines could be BANNED on some Manchester billboards.
It’s being spear-headed by Coun Anastasia Wiest, a Green Party politician. Coun Wiest, who represents the Woodhouse Park ward which covers Manchester Airport, said the move would help promote other green projects the council has invested in.“ goes against our ambitions, we have put money into an electric vehicle charging network, an electric Bee Network, and a clean air strategy,” Coun Wiest told the MEN.
The motion, which is supported by the Green and Lib Dem opposition, would require the support of a majority of councillors to become official policy. As 87 of Manchester’s 96 total councillors are Labour, in effect the motion would require either the ruling party’s support or a significant rebellion from Labour councillors to pass.
