The Canadian Automobile Dealers Association says it is deploying its “substantial legal, financial and intellectual resources” to counter a move by Honda Canada to reduce dealer profit margin on vehicle sales.

“CADA supports cooperative and fair relations between automobile dealers and their respective manufacturers, in pursuit of the mutual success of both dealers and manufacturers,” the group said in a March 19 statement. As reported by Automotive News Canada on March 18, Canadian dealers and industry sources said Honda Canada plans to reduce dealer margin on vehicles sales by up to 44 per cent. The profit reduction would start with the new all-electric Honda Prologue before expanding to the company’s wider lineup for the 2025 model year, they added.

Honda Canada would not confirm the details nor address questions about the changes to margin for its close to 250 dealers across the country. In a statement, the company said it does not “share the details of our business relationship with our dealers.”
