The Virginia Department of Transportation has issued safety guidelines for drivers who will be on the road during the total solar eclipse on April 8.'It will be almost like dusk or dawn and so if folks are traveling early afternoon on Monday, April 8th, they can find some big differences. So, we definitely are asking folks to plan around that,' said Ken Slack, communications at the VDOT Staunton District.Slack advises drivers to have their headlights on during the eclipse.
'Sometimes those are terrible crashes because you got somebody who is inside the vehicle or around the vehicle and get struck by either their own car or the one that is still moving,' Slack explained.Officials recommend that if you are driving and wish to pull off to watch the eclipse, you should find a safe place to stop your vehicle, such as a rest area. However, if you plan on watching the eclipse on April 8, remember to have a pair of certified eclipse glasses.
