The cars were severely damaged in the blaze

Emergency services were called to Childwall Valley Road in Belle Vale at around 11.45pm on Sunday, April 7 to reports of a police van being set on fire. Five minutes later, at around 11.50pm, another police car was set alight.

One person told the ECHO officers had previously been knocking at a house near Belle Vale Road around 15 minutes before the incident. They said they later heard a "big smash" before emergency services showed up at the scene. A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: "We are appealing for information after two police cars were deliberately set on fire in Belle Vale last night, Sunday, April 7. At around 11.45pm, passing patrols in Belle Vale reported a parked police van having been set alight on Childwall Valley Road, close to Belle Vale Police Station.

Detective Inspector Steve Street said: “We are treating these incidents as deliberate and linked, and our extensive enquiries will continue to identify those responsible. Thankfully, no members of the public or officers were injured.
