The Nigerian Customs Service Federal Operations Unit Zone C, Owerri said it has impounded eight exotic cars and other items whose owners refused to pay duties, thereby defrauding the federal government to the tune of N441 million.items seized on the Benin axis to journalists in its Benin office.stressed that duties were expected to be paid on imported items but regretted that despite repeated appeals and confiscation of such goods, smugglers had remained adamant.
Olusemire gave the break down of the seized items to include a Toyota Land Crusier PRADO with a duty paid value of N23 million, Mercedes Benz ML 350 worth N12.6 million, and a Mercedez Benz G63 Brabus with a duty paid value of N60 million.of N29.2 million, Armoured Range Rover valued at N16.8million, Mercedez Benz GLE 450 worth N20.
A Mercedez Benz ML 350 valued at N5.7 million and a truck car laden with two sets of living room furniture with dining tables and chairs all worth N46 million were also confiscated. The unit controller said the furniture was seized as a result of false declaration by the owner to evade payment of duty.
