Sky News host Andrew Bolt says Labor’s plan to put more electric cars on the road is like another pink batts scheme ‘on steroids’. As part of his climate policy announced on Monday, Opposition leader Bill Shorten has committed to ensure 50 per cent of all cars sold in 10 years’ time will be electric. Mr Bolt says that if Australians use more electric cars, people will use more electricity, which Labor will provide less of when closing coal-fired power generators to cut emissions.

billshortenmp 50%.?

billshortenmp Shorten has no idea what he's talking about-cost of home infrastructure to charge an electric car would be prohibitiveX50% of all vehicles would require a 50% increase in BLG-virtually impossible with renewables+$1000 batteries w/life expectancy of 5-7 yrs

billshortenmp

billshortenmp How true it's a repeat of the Rudd era.

billshortenmp I'm sure 50% will be electric. Sady the words of politicians destroy business and create industry uncertainty.

billshortenmp Because electricity is magic - it comes from unicorn farts and leprechaun pots of gold.

billshortenmp Bill Shorten is a kangaroo short in the top paddock. He is totally delusional, and is lacking in common sense and intelligence, to be even considered as worthy of being an Australian Prime Minister. GREEN lunacy in the form of environmental BS, lacks total political credibility.

billshortenmp “Electricity stations all over Australia”? How many billions would that cost? All solar and wind powered? That should lower the temperature in China India Russia and Iceland.

billshortenmp “Imbecile” will say anything...

billshortenmp Labor hasn't considered us regional folks who may need at least 2 or 3 charges to get anywhere. What's wrong with hybrid vehicles?

billshortenmp thx go to TonyAbbottMHR for moving next-gen car manufacturing overseas

BigV2011WCE billshortenmp Ludicrous. Electricity based in public housing. Welfare recipe can hardly afford a car let alone an electric one which hikes 20k above petrol comparables. Fix the lack of power reserves to Aussies first!

billshortenmp Why would ALP spend $200m (?) on electricity recharging stations when all electric vehicles will have (lighter more efficient) on board hydrogen generators by early 2020's? H already on sale at conventional petrol stations in LA & London.

billshortenmp That's showing leadership. Auto makers are making the transition with our without the dinosaur Liberal National parties.

billshortenmp Bills off to a good start !! Theres no stopping this lad !! 👍👍👍😊

billshortenmp Car sales in 2018 were 1.153m. So Brilliant Bill is talking about 576,500k cars sold by 2028/29 being electric. Given there are currently 18,007,767 cars in Oz....I can REALLY see how this will help climate change. What horse s*hit!!! AupolNews

billshortenmp This may happen despite Labor policy due to economics. Especially if we get competition between Lithium batteries and Hydrogen fuel cells. It is bad policy picking technology winners. Has never worked. Look at NBN. Better to set well thought out objectives then pick winners

billshortenmp 50% is actually a realistic target. Rumour has it that Great Wall are about to release an EV so if the Chinese get into the mass production of EV’s they will become significantly less expensive

billshortenmp I see a theme forming. Pink Batts, carbon tax, picking on Gillard. Got it... its the auspol past PM 'miserable ghosts theme' dead cat! OK, got another one to help out Sky... The Turnbull takeover

billshortenmp Today's politicians generally have no sicence or engineering background. But they like to pretend they are experts, and can do big social engineering with technology and taxpayers' money, Especially the lefts. And their experiments always end in disaster.

billshortenmp Are these people this fn stupid? Or are they trying to lose the unlosable election? I thought they would be using solar and wind powered cars, not “dirty coal powered electricity” ones What madness

billshortenmp The failure of the ‘pink batts’ scheme was not about the policy. A very good idea was plagued with implementation problems for which bureaucrats were responsible, not the minister. The deaths resulted from a lack of OH&S enforcement which is actually a state responsibility!

billshortenmp Totally insane. Electricity consumption will skyrocket, where you get electrity? Oh, you say solar energy. Do yoy know solar energy panels take huge energy to produce. You import panel from China, China burns lots of coal to produce them.

billshortenmp

billshortenmp If self driving cars become the norm, whole car industry and associate infrastructure would change. Part of that change would be more electric cars. Car industry should lead change, not government. Once government starts picking winners, tax payers generally loose out.

billshortenmp I believe in CC. I am 63 and have never been able to afford to buy a new car, petrol or diesel. My most expensive car was $12,000 That was 4 years old and took me 7 years to pay off. After the RC I will never get finance to buy another. These EV's are in the luxury car price.

billshortenmp A great initiative. Think about the exponential rise in the use of smart phones! A previously unknown product became universal in a decade. Once technology takes hold adoption is always much faster than predicted. Australia is well behind the G20 in moving to electric vehicles.

billshortenmp From the flat earther Bolt. yeah ok
