Alyssa Ricken lives in the heart of downtown, and as a frequent pedestrian, drivers can sometimes make her nervous. She's excited about the new program being implemented by the city's Vision Zero initiative, designed to slow down cars and make crosswalks safer.Vision Zero's Acting Transportation Safety Officer says it's called the Left Turn Calming Pilot. With an initial launch at 16 intersections, rubber speed cushions and delineated posts are being set up to reduce wide, high-speed turns.

"It really slows down turning vehicles, squares those vehicles up a little bit so they can see crossing pedestrians and really just leads to better outcomes,” Meyer said.
