More than half of the 1,000 parents surveyed said they helped pay for their child's driving lessons, while just over a quarter had contributed towards their first car.

But an online calculator is making it easier for families to understand the costs associated with driving before their young ones apply for their licence. "Unfortunately, statistics show that newly qualified drivers are more likely to have accidents, and when they do, they tend to be more serious and the claims are bigger, hence the higher premiums.
