Body armour, bullet proof cars and a flying brick: Inside the Cape Town club security war

The witness in the trial of Cape Town businessmen Mark Lifman, Jerome Booysen, Andre Naude and others testified about the chaotic"takeback" of nightclub security in the Cape Town CBD in 2017 that he witnessed as a protector in one of the groups fighting for turf.

Mr X, whose picture and identity may not be published, testified that with his body armour, personal licensed firearm, and his bulk, he formed part of a convoy of high-end bulletproof vehicles and taxis filled with 27s gangsters, going from club to club to"intimidate" owners and managers into taking them back.

He testified that through all this, he would have communicated with one of at least 20"burner phones" he bought from a shop in Sea Point, to avoid being caught in a police phone trap. These were small Nokias with a SIM card registered to somebody else and he would limit use to a maximum of 10 calls before tossing it.South Africans need to be in the know if we want to create a prosperous future.
