Ferrari has revealed their much-anticipated special Miami Grand Prix livery, featuring a blue paint job on their iconic red cars.
The Italian F1 team announced last week that they would be hitting the Florida track this weekend with a unique one-off paint job showcasing two different shades of blue. However, they did not disclose how much their traditional red cars would be impacted by the colour change. The team has now unveiled their livery for the Miami race. The car's traditional red remains the primary base colour, though the front and rear wings are blue, and there are also accents on the bodywork.
This reveal follows the team's announcement of Hewlett Packard as its new title sponsor. This lucrative deal will see the computer company's logo featured on its cars and the drivers' racing suits, while the official team name has been changed to 'Scuderia Ferrari HP'. The bold new look of the SF-24 cars pays homage to the team's illustrious past.
This is a tribute to Alberto Ascari, who wore blue on his helmet and race suit when he became Ferrari's first F1 champion in the 1950s. The second shade is a darker hue that has also been worn by one of its legendary past drivers. Clay Regazzoni was the last racer to use the shade, Azzurro Dino before Ferrari's drivers switched to wearing predominantly red race suits.
The audacious shift is part of Ferrari's commemoration of its historic entry into the American market. The Italians competed in white and blue vehicles for the last two races of the 1964 season to highlight that significant milestone in the brand's history.
