The mechanical engineering program at ASU will be offered to students starting in the fall 2024 semester.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Hyundai and Genesis Motor America are donating $50,000 to Alabama State University to launch its mechanical engineering program.

Leaders from Hyundai and ASU said Thursday that the program will attract new students to Montgomery and hopefully, new workers. “It just puts a smile on my face when I look at the students who are ready to enter Alabama State University this fall and they say that they’re going into mechanical engineering. This gift will give them that opportunity and experience,” said ASU President Dr. Quinton Ross.

University officials say the support from Hyundai and GMA will allow the program to offer state-of-the-art facilities, advanced resources, and valuable industry connections. Hyundai says this was its inaugural donation and it remains committed to supporting ASU and STEM education across the River Region.
