Some climate advocates are also concerned they could distract from policies to cut fossil fuels. Mammoth will be able to pull up to 36,000 tonnes of carbon from the atmosphere at full capacity, according to Climeworks. That's equivalent to taking about 7800 petrol-powered cars off the road for a year.
