look, this is a sad event but completely preventable. Most ubers/lyfts have signs already but the most important thing is that driver info, car make and model, and license plate are all given in the app. It is a rider's responsibility to check they are getting in the right car.
Orrrrr maybe riders should, idk look at license plates, make sure the driver looks like the person in the app.. I know it's silly to have someone be responsible but come on folks, don't be stupid!
A lot of people here are shitting on Uber, but I'm actually gonna go ahead and say this one's on her for not bothering to check the plates or get a name. What if somebody signs up for Uber just to get the stickers and goes around 'off the clock' pretending to be a driver?
A shame that it took Uber a while to get on this when lyft has had it already. Maybe the illuminated sign should display the passenger’s name as well..since sometimes it is hard to find your ride when multiple people request at a busy time.

A way better solution would be for every driver to have to post an updated picture from their waiste up so you can fully know before even getting in the car that he or she is your driver.
This is stupid as most Lyft cars already have an illuminated pair of lips in the window & it doesn't let the rider know if they have the correct driver. Use an LED sign connected to driver's phone that displays a code that the app randomly generates & shows on the rider's phone.

Designated plates would also help in the proper identification of the vehicle assisting law enforcement agencies to access information.
This is just 1 reason why Taxis are marked. The use of designated plates would help decrease the number of Fake TNCs by allowing law enforcement & other TNC drivers to recognize if a vehicle is a legitimate TNC or not.
This death should have never happened.
Ride Safe recommends that all TNC vehicles should be issued by their state, a designated TNC plate to be used on that specific vehicle for the duration of its TNC service(s).
Illuminated signs can be bought from Amazon, EBay, and Wal-Mart rather cheaply. WHY TAXIS AND LIMOS ARE STILL BETTER AND SAFER THAN RIDESHARES (UBER & LYFT)

I think Lyft has a light up sign. I still say UBER sends you plenty of information to ensure you are able to verify.

When you request Uber it shows you what car you’re getting picked up by (make and model and color and license plate.) You even see the picture of your driver. With all that safety precautions in place, it’s sad that a bill has to be passed.

There is already a means to prevent a person from getting in the wrong car. This law is useless. Now, any criminal can get a sign and lure innocent people.

This is a fantastic idea!! Ppl also need to be more aware of their surroundings and actually read the app and see that it matches the clear descriptions of the car and driver it's supposed to. Uber drivers are pretty much all good people but there are real bad actors out there.
