The incident happened at around 8pm on Bradford Road in Bootle, at the junction with Stanley Road. According to neighbours, there were several police cars at the scene, as well as a "police helicopter" overhead.
Witnesses reported seeing the crash unfurl in a "matter of seconds". One neighbour said: "it all happened so fast. I heard a car driving very fast down the street. Then I heard a loud braking noise. I thought to myself, there's going to be an accident. Then the next second, there was a loud crash." As the neighbour ran outside, he claims he saw "police chasing the car, running very fast towards it". He added: "It was very scary. They are not even thinking about the consequences. I don't know why people behave like this."
