This was the surreal moment traffic came to a halt on one of Manchester's busiest roads as people began climbing on top of cars. Hazard lights flashed and horns were persistently pipped as the vehicles came to a halt on Great Ancoats Street.
A number of people were seen climbing on top of the cars involved - shouting, waving their arms and dancing in the middle of the street. The bizarre scenes unfolded at around midnight this morning . Chris Smith, 31, captured the moment as he walked back to his Northern Quarter home from last night's Nicki Minaj concert at Co-op Live. "A group of cars all came round the corner," Chris told the Manchester Evening News."There were people sat hanging from the windows, they were beeping their horns and all shouting. They randomly all stopped halfway down the road and they all just started climbing out of their cars, jumping on top of them shouting.
"I thought it was about to kick off but it looked like they were celebrating something. I carried on walking as more cars came round the corner and they were all held up by the guys that had gotten out of their cars to celebrate so the whole street just became a cacophony of car horns as people tried to get them to move."
The reason for the strange scenes remains a mystery, but the cars did not hang around for too long. Greater Manchester Police confirmed it was called out to the incident, but by the time officers arrived the cars had moved on, so no further action was taken.
