Gardai have called on the Government to provide them with a real-time roadside database to catch uninsured drivers.
The Motor Insurance Bureau of Ireland estimates there are 150,000 uninsured vehicles in the Republic. He said: "The number of claims made relating to uninsured or untraced drivers in 2015 was 2,516 and this rose to 2,758 in 2017. Roger explained that gardai can seize the vehicles of uninsured motorists but that they were required to give the driver ten days to produce their documentation.
