One person has died and six others have been injured in a cattle truck crash in NSW’s Central West, with a highway now closed in both directions. The heavy vehicle, which was loaded with livestock, and three cars, one towing a laden horse float, collided on Newell Hwy, about 10 kilometres north of O’Leary’s Ln, in Peak Hill just after 5pm on Monday. One car passenger - who is yet to be identified - died at the scene.
Paramedics treated six others before they were taken to Dubbo and Parkes Hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries. The Newell Highway is closed in both directions between Tomingly and Peak Hill as specialist police from the crash investigation unit examine the scene. “The roadway is expected to remain a crime scene for a considerable amount of time and motorists are urged to avoid the area,” police said. Anyone with information should contact police.
