Ferrari has made a significant step towards the launch of its first full electric car next year with the opening of a new e-building production facility at its factory in Maranello. The new 42,500 square metre facility, which was opened in a ceremony attended by Italian president Sergio Mattaella, is designed to maximise “production flexibility” for the Italian supercar firm.
While Ferrari has so far bought in electric motors for its hybrid machines, the decision to produce batteries and e-motors in house is a significant statement of intent in the firm’s desire to ensure maximum control over its future products, and to ensure electric models what it refers to as “Ferrari’s signature driving excitement”. More than 300 staff will work in the e-building, with training for the new production lines having started more than two years ago.
