LOSING car keys could be a thing of the past thanks to new technology from Hyundai that lets you use your smartphone to unlock your vehicle.
Hyundai's new third-generation 2020 Sonata car comes equipped with the company's first 'Digital Key'.The Sonata car has been around since the 1980s but the 2020 features technology that has never been seen before on a Hyundai car. To use the app, smartphone owners must first download the Hyundai app, which then uses 'Near Field Communication' technology to turn the phone into a key capable of unlocking the car if it is placed near the drivers seat door handle.The car also comes with a traditional set of keys as the smartphone key is only available on Android phones.
Owners who are sharing or loaning their car to friends or family members can also control some of the features that can be used and can remotely revoke the smartphone key at any time.
Do they supply the smart phone! What if you don't have one, just a normal phone!
Tesla already do this
Easy to hack. Hack the phone, you got the car. Read the signal and copy it, you get the car. Any electronical system can be hacked, good old key is still the best.
Until you go for a day out somewhere and your phone dies... you'll instead be stuck miles from home.
What is wrong with vehicle manufacturers putting security below a gimmick.
