Utah is seeing a rise in wildfires sparked by vehicles and agricultural burns, authorities said on Wednesday, July 3, 2024.
Since Memorial Day weekend, 56 wildfires have been attributed to vehicles across the state, officials said in a statement issued Wednesday. The culprits - worn down tires and breaks, sagging tow chains and hot equipment parked near dry vegetation.
"Agricultural and debris burns escaping to neighboring lands are a leading cause of wildfire in Utah," Barnes said. "We urge residents to comply with all regulations regarding yard debris burning."
