ALDOT says on average about 80,000 vehicles come through our area. During peak travel days like this, it can be around 90,000

) -The day before the 4th of July is always one of the biggest travel days of the year. So much so that some drivers are trying to avoid the traffic as much as they can.“Oh, it’s hectic especially if you’re trying to go across the bay the traffic is horrible. Going towards Florida is always bad, so I try not to travel, at least be home,” said Shannon Stewart.

“They can tweak it, they can change it based on what they see on the traffic pattern at the moment,” said ALDOT Public Information Officer James Gordon. “If it’s congested, they can change it to make it move faster, quicker, smoother.” “They’re watching very closely to make sure if there’s an accident or a crash that they can respond to it quickly and we have tow trucks, extra to trucks to get the vehicles off the bayway, causeway or the interstate as quickly as possible,” said Gordon.
