This 25-year-old hairstylist earns $280,000 a year near Detroit—here’s how he spends his money (via CNBCMakeit)

Pardoe moved to Detroit from Virginia after high school to attend cosmetology school and ended up starting his career there in 2012.

On any given day, Pardoe sees between eight and 22 clients, with the help of two assistants. He charges around $275 for highlights and anywhere from $800 to $2,000 for extensions, depending on length and thickness. Pardoe's largest monthly expense is his two cars. Currently, he's leasing a Mercedes Benz G-550 for $2,200 a month, which he plans to buy outright when the lease is up. He's also financing a BMW i8, which runs him $1,300 a month. He spends $380 on insurance and about $300 on premium gas.

Pardoe spends around $5,000 on travel annually, which averages out to around $420 per month. He says it can be easy to get wrapped up in work, and so it's worth it to him to spend money on vacations and seeing the world: "I think it's really important to be as cultured as humanly possible and keep yourself grounded."

MakeIt Person who makes more than I do and lives in a less expensive area than I do is talking to people about saving?

MakeIt Save more

MakeIt Wait ... why do we care about this?

MakeIt Balance is key😎

MakeIt That's impressive considering most millennials still live in mamma's basement. Good for him. He must know his stuff.

MakeIt Welp, that's awesome!

MakeIt More power to him!

MakeIt Interesting

MakeIt No one cares

MakeIt I’m totally at the other end of the life spectrum...old, married, white & straight... but I really like this MM segment on Alex. He’s organised, he works hard, he’s self made, & he co-owns a good business...but omg I would be saving more.

MakeIt If wealthy women in Detroit ever start going to the local barber shop this guy is going to be in trouble.

MakeIt Gotta respect da hustle

MakeIt How are you still renting? Dumb with money

MakeIt I love this kid

MakeIt

MakeIt Gucci. so gay. oh wait. can't seem like a discriminatory freak. nvm

MakeIt

MakeIt We make more and I barely spend it on discretionary items. He must not pay taxes or something is odd there .

MakeIt Love how Alex identified his market. Inspirational!

MakeIt ill be dying for a follow up story, say .. 3 or 4 yrs from now

MakeIt $4,000+ for cars. 😱💸

MakeIt Lets see his tax returns. I call, BS. If he makes that much, he has a horrible accountant!!! ProveIt

MakeIt Damn, that water supply is even more polluted than first thought...

MakeIt Always hated male hairdressers because they always screwed up my hair the most because their egos didn't match their skills.

MakeIt I make more then him. Have nothing cool to show for it. Lol.

MakeIt I love this guy bragging about his salary in Detroit... bro you better be packin’

MakeIt $280k per year as a hairstylist? Oh, I missed the 'salon owner' part, which means he's making some of that money off of his boot renters. For those of you not paying attention the MEDIAN income for a stylist is $24,850. So he's atypical in a big way if he's making $280k!

MakeIt Good for this guy. Starting and growing your own business is the American Dream.

MakeIt The purpose of life is to help as many people as possible, especially children. Hopefully he's doing that or all that money will come to naught. Now back to building afterlife technology for the Biblical vineyard of Matthew 20.

MakeIt I absolutely loved this! Alex you are living your best life. Keep doing these pieces, it’s fun to see happy people and how they chose to spend their money!

MakeIt Dude’s killing it! Good for him

MakeIt HE IS AN OWNER GETS A PERCENTAGE FROM THE OTHER HAIR STYLIST WHO RENT A SPACE

MakeIt The state of the country when a 25 year old makes $280,000 and that’s NEWS WORTHY bc most of us are broke and struggling 🤷🏻‍♀️

MakeIt Why the hate in the replies? I can’t relate to that guy in anyway except I’m still searching for the work I love that I will also provide for my family. Thx for sharing this guy’s story.

MakeIt Earning and take home pay are in two different worlds.

MakeIt The hell is this tripe CNBC? did you fact check ANY of this guys story?

MakeIt For his income of “280,000$” you’d think he could have thrown on a bit more than a t-Shirt for his MSM debut 🤣🤣

MakeIt Is this Putin’s stylist, must be.

MakeIt You mean 28,000$ after his influencer ego bullshiz 🤣

MakeIt I feel good when I can still fit into clothes I bought 5 years ago.

MakeIt Obsessed

MakeIt

MakeIt Me: I’m sorry self for making you watch 85% of this.. I saw the comments & I knew better🤷‍♀️🥺.. Self:

MakeIt

MakeIt He’s pretty dumb actually. Pisses money away like water and barely has any savings relative to his earnings.

MakeIt This is such garbage 🙄

MakeIt I love poverty, everything is free.

MakeIt What exactly is the point of articles profiling young people who are making ungodly, highly atypical amounts of money and telling us how they “get by?”

MakeIt Give credit when credit is due! Good work!😁

MakeIt Well isn’t that just interesting. You might also mention that my neighbor is taking flying lessons. And the woman across the street got a new set of fake eyelashes.

MakeIt We don’t care. Good for him. I’m genuinely happy for his success. Stop dangling steaks in front of the hungry. Most of us can not relate and this is not news.

MakeIt He can buy Detroit now.

MakeIt Goo ?
