Would it be possible to enact and enforce a law against vehicles idling? Is this is done in other European countries? How much pollution might this prevent?Post your answers – and new questions – below or email them to nq@theguardian.
Yes, only sell hybrid vehicles. Next!
This will cut CO2 pollution, but may actually make NOx pollution (think smog, respiratory irritation) emissions worse. Most NOx is emitted in the first few seconds of starting a car, when the catalytic converter is not yet warmed to its ideal operating temperature.
Restarting time and time again when Diesels are not warmed up is SUPER polluting!!
Firstly the government should look at them selves for making everyone buy diesels, then repay all of those people back for wasting our money ,
Leftists would make a law for breathing if they could. Total control freaks all.
The Guardian really is an environmental fundamentalist piece of trash. Won’t be happy until everyone is living like in the Dark Ages. Fact: if you want to live in your ‘green’ utopia, you need to forgo about 95% of your current lifestyle. Go on. Try it.
Would this include heating the car up to clear ice from the windows, or would we be expected to drive into the unknown?
Responsible drivers turn engines off at traffic lights, anyway. How about positive reinforcement rather than outright banning. Still no mention of Geoengineering from your rag, as usual.
The government already taxis in London so why not AirPollution Air
Nobody with any physics or engineering knowledge would even ask that question.
No, because cars without start, stop feature can't stop and start all the time, it's just not possible.
Don't you think the government is already too deep into our lives? How about car manufacturers place a device on vehicles that will shut them off at a given amount of time.
Sweden has had this law since the 1980’s, at least.... 😑
Westminster already has a local ordinance on this that might be worth emulating?
Would it be possible to enact a law against corporate media to cut the cobblers and talk about GeoEngineering chemtrails
District of Columbia has a three minute idling law. If only they would enforce it.
Please god.
