Do we want to have AI self-driving cars that might be somehow legally driving in a means that isn’t the direct cause of car accidents and yet it’s driving practices could be said to be fostering car accidents?Another qualm about the safety definition involves the phrase “result in injury or death.” Do we want to have AI self-driving cars that can get away with a “no harm, no foul” driving practice that includes ramming into buildings, cars, and other items of property, as long as a human wasn’t injured or killed?The tail-end phrase in the safety definition refer to aspects that are supposed to be “reasonably foreseeable and preventable.”You are driving down the street and a ball suddenly bounces onto the roadway from an adjacent grassy park.
My point is that we can argue quite a bit about what constitutes a reasonable kind of sensibility about being able to foresee and then prevent driving incident. The example about the ball and the child is perhaps an obvious one.
