Most Americans aren’t interested in electric vehicles.

Ford’s Cannis cites an interesting statistic: “Forty-two percent of Americans think electric vehicles still require gas to run.” That shows how little many Americans know about EVs. Or they think all EVs are basically asearch would disabuse people of most mistaken notions in 15 minutes.

From my personal experience, it’s palpable disinterest. Many times I’ve tried to educate friends, family, strangers about EVs and their eyes just glaze over. Their expression says it all: I’ll be polite and listen but I’m not interested. That said, almost to a person, anyone I know who has bought an EV will never go back. You can refuel at home, no more trips to the gas station, very little maintenance, noBut that seemingly common sense argument doesn't mean you can convince others.

Even in the great EV Mecca of Los Angeles DC fast chargers are still few and far between. And the fast charging pumps that are available are often taken. That means waiting 10, 15 or sometimes 30 minutes for a charger. That’s on top of the time it takes to charge. That can be a powerful counterargument for those who have an interest in EVs but need to charge outside of their home.Dealerships in the U.S. are franchises. That 100-year-old business model wants to sell maintenance.

Tesla is doing its part. But the rest of the industry is not. Just look at General Motors. Despite being the original pioneer with the EV1 in 1997, it still can’t muster selling, more than 20 years later. That’s pretty pathetic, in my opinion. Go to many Chevy dealers and you’ll still see Bolts hidden behind a phalanx of Silverados, Suburbans, Equinoxes, and Corvettes. The company and its franchises just aren’t interested in selling lots of EVs.

It's like the person looked out the window in their basement office and came up with this article. I've seen way more Tesla's in my traveling for work in States like Montana than I thought I would, like enough to actually wonder if I was being followed by them.

Could you be any more obvious?

Fossil fuels succeed only because it’s good for the 1%’ers. Wake up. Fossil fuel extraction is terrorism.

Idk if I agree with your article , very popular here in Orlando, cars been out for 2 years and already has 500k on the road, I get tons of questions about mine and Tesla doesn’t even advertise and it’s the best selling luxury car.

I don’t need a $100k luxury car. I need a $10k commuter, seats for two and room for groceries. Where are the cheap Chinese cars?

This article is missing a key point. The reason more people don’t buy Tesla cars is that Tesla can’t make them any faster than they currently are. At least in the case of Tesla, supply is limiting, not demand. Prices are high because lower prices are not needed to clear market.

“I won’t cite a bunch of statistics (that may seem encouraging but actually are not) just look around you.” Yeah, don’t let statistical facts, or science get in the way. Anecdotal is the future! TSLAQ elonmusk

Big Oil:

Depends on where you live I guess... here in Northern Virginia, I see more model 3s than Honda civics these days.

This article is nonsense really, just clickbait which is something Forbes is doing too much of. Charging infrastructure is an interesting comment; yet every building on the planet is wired with electricity to charge devices including cars.

You buried the lead. The dealers make a fraction of the money when compared to gas cars. No oil changes, no transmission work, no exhaust, no fluid flushes and brakes last forever. You did how ever nail the truth - “current ev owners will never go back” telsa & rivian ftw

I drive for work and current models can't get from point a to point b without an extended stop to recharge somewhere along the route, wasting my time.

Come on complete bullshit article. Get with the times electric is the future. elonmusk we trust.

It's not only the americans that don't buy electric cars. Europeans also. The reason is the cars are ugly and expensive!

Most Americans cannot afford a new car.

We will eventually buy electric cars but we won't ever buy autonomous cars

Because they're a sham

They are still not in the affordable range for the everyday families, with 70 percent of america not able to handle a 500 dollar emergency expense. If Tesla can hit the 23,000$ mark, watch the purchases of electric cars increase.

elonmusk Tesla is this for real 🤔

Why do you think....range. And range anxiety.

They are not real cars
