A man who police said was breaking into cars on USC’s Greek Row was fatally stabbed by a possible witness who is in custody Tuesday.

The victim, who police said was in his 30s, was pronounced dead at the scene, Los Angeles Police Department Officer Tony Im told City News Service.

The witness, a 19-year-old student at USC, who saw the victim allegedly breaking into the cars was taken into custody near the scene. The stabbing was reported around 8:15 p.m. Monday 0n the 700 block of West 28th Street, east of University Avenue. LAPD Capt. Jaime Bennett told reporters there was “some kind of altercation between the witness and the suspect” before the stabbing, and police will be interviewing any witnesses and collecting evidence for several hours.

She may have a full ride to Harvard, but as an undocumented immigrant without a job permit, her future is uncertain
