Only four out of the top ten most American-made cars are actually from US manufacturers

Tesla and Honda dominate the American Made Index, with three entries each in the top ten. Volkswagen's ID.4 gets second runner-up spot thanks to increased American content. 14 of the top 20 most American cars are from Japanese manufacturers.

Toyota adds its hat in the ring with the Camry in seventh position, while the company's upmarket brand rounds out the top ten with the Lexus TX. The long-standing study, conducted by Cars.com, has been an important litmus test for consumers who truly care about how much American content and labor goes into their domestic-built vehicles. It considers five main criteria: assembly location, parts content, engine origin, transmission origin, and U.S. manufacturing workforce.
