The UK government has revealed it is still conducting research as 'mandatory' speed limiters are just over a week away from being introduced on cars destined for the country.
Even though the EU's changes have not been adopted in the UK, car manufacturers in Europe are not removing ISA specifically for cars heading to the UK. This could result in cars sold in UK dealerships being retrofitted with 'mandatory' speed limiters from Sunday, July 7.The EU has implemented these new regulations on ISA under its General Safety Rule , which outlines the minimum safety standards required for vehicles and trailers, BirminghamLive reports.
A spokesperson for the DfT said: "We are constantly carrying out research into how transport users across all modes can benefit from the latest technology, ensuring journeys are safe, reliable, and cut emissions. The Intelligent Speed Assistance laws coming into effect in July apply to the EU and Northern Ireland only, not Great Britain."
