Vehicles will have to get 49 mpg by 2026.

stricter fuel economy standards

“When these standards take effect, Americans buying a new vehicle will spend less on gas than they would have if we hadn’t taken this step,” Buttigieg said at a Friday news conference in Washington, DC. “We estimate that today’s rule will prevent 5.5 trillion pounds of carbon dioxide from going into our atmosphere between now and 2050.”

“Americans buying a new vehicle will spend less on gas than they would have if we hadn’t taken this step” The new standards, which were first unveiled last year, are part of a larger effort by President Joe Biden to reverse the rules put in place by Donald Trump and return to the Obama-era fuel economy standards from nearly a decade ago.that would increase fuel efficiency by 8 percent annually for vehicle model years 2024–2026 and increase the estimated fleetwide average by 12 miles per gallon for model year 2026, relative to model year 2021.

Keep gas at $5/gal and that problem will take care of itself.

This will never happen.

Car guys:

Why isn’t there a focus on the amount of cars on the road overall? Our infrastructure is overloaded, roads and bridges in poor shape. One of the best things during the pandemic was the significant decrease in vehicles on the road because of work from home.

It’s about time the US starts to catch up and actually starts to do something about emissions. The US accounts for only 4% of global population but emits 20% of global emissions.

How sad

Still feel like we should also enforce higher MPG on cars.

Good.

Gotta Keep pushing that ev agenda so much easier to track and control the travel of the population

Federal government sets new 40 mpg fuel standard for all vehicles sold in U.S. beginning in 2026The change uproots standards set by the Trump administration that required new vehicles get just over 24 miles per gallon. Tales have been told of a 2004 Honda Civic hybrid that gets 50 mpg and costs $30 to fill in todays prices; none have yet discovered it, but whoever does will be the de facto ruler of all cars large and small. Fuel stds are based on the mfgs fleet, not every single new vehicle. So avg within the fleet. So your headline is false!
