Transport Minister Omar Alghabra said Friday about four in five Canadians are interested in making their next vehicle purchase an electric model but because the purchase prices are still a little higher than conventional gasoline cars, they need a little help to nudge them along.
Initially, the maximum purchase price of a vehicle to qualify was $45,000 and up to $55,000 with options. Vehicles with at least seven seats could qualify with a maximum price of $55,000. The changes added 14 new vehicles to the list, and bumped four plug-in hybrids from the $2,500 rebate to $5,000. Adjusting the limit added some new SUVs to the list, such as the plug-in hybrid Jeep Wrangler, and the Lincoln Corsair Grand Touring.
A spokeswoman for Alghabra said Ford applied for an F-150 truck to be included in the program earlier this week and that application is being reviewed now.
“by 2035, no new gas-powered vehicles will be allowed.”
What about incentives to apartment buildings to put in charging stations that they don’t then make a profit from? 100% corporate landlords are going to charge $70 a month for something that costs a fraction of that. This is yet another scheme that only benefits the wealthier
Cut minimum wage to $3/hr. Cut corporate taxes to 5%. Increase income tax to 80%. Raise gasoline and diesel to $12/ltr. Increase property taxes 65%. and please raise prices on all food products at least double what they are now. Please please please. ASAP
Government should not be subsidizing vehicle purchases, can’t afford EV buy gas vehicle, take public transit, bike or walk.
The main problem is making car makers compete. Raising the rebate just encourages them to raise the saled price. IMO, drop all rebates and force makers to adhere to the dates for phasing out fossil fuels.
We should be subsidizing ebikes, not more luxury cars
Right, let’s give rebates to the upper-middle class and upper class, mostly paid for by the folks in the lower-middle class. The same people paying for these rebates are the ones who could never afford the damn cars themselves. Absolute madness.
