A6 Londonderry-Dungiven road opens in time for Easter holidaysCars, lorries and buses took to the 16-mile stretch of road shortly after 09:00 BST on Thursday. Work began on the road back in 2018 and was due to be completed by last autumn, but has been plagued by delays.
60 years Dungiven was waiting for a bypass to construct around the town. In the past 20 years, Dungiven was the only town without a bypass between Belfast and Derry. Didn't think we would see the day that only local traffic is using Dungiven main street and Chapel Road .
Drove to Londonderry two years ago bypassing Dungiven. The next time (and every subsequent time) the bypass was coned off. Very difficult to understand what was behind the delays. Glad it’s finished.
Great to see that the scheme includes a footpath. Pedestrian deaths and injuries on roads, regardless of classification, are far too common.
The road to nowhere…
There's no London in Derry ?
2 years to construct it, 3 years to lift up all the cones on it.
Why didn't it just roll over the dirty loyalist enclave of Drumahole an do us all a favour.
‘Oh look at me! I’m the 705 Aircoach and I left Dublin Airport on Wednesday morning and now I’m just beating down this lovely new road, skimming 9 minutes off my journey time’
Will probably be closed for essential maintenance tomorrow though
