The proposed regulation would set greenhouse gas emissions limits for 2027 through 2032 model years for passenger vehicles that would be even stricter than the goals the auto industry agreed to in 2021.

The Biden administration will propose strict new automobile pollution limits this week that would require at least 54% of new vehicles sold in the U.S. to be electric by 2030 and as many as two of every three by 2032, according to industry and environmental officials briefed on the plan.

Environmental groups are applauding the ambitious numbers, which were first reported over the weekend by. But the plan is likely to get strong pushback from the auto industry, which already pledged in August 2021 to make EVs half of U.S. new car sales by 2030 as it moves toward a history-making transition away from internal combustion engines.

With electric vehicles accounting for just 7.2% of U.S. vehicle sales in the first quarter of this year, the industry has a long way to go to even approach the administration's targets. But the percentage of EV sales is growing. Last year it was 5.8% of new vehicles sales. The auto industry likely will need to sell a lot more EVs to meet the requirements. It's already pushed up the mileage of gasoline vehicles with more efficient engines and transmissions, reducing weight and other measures. Many in the industry say they'd rather spend investment dollars developing new EVs that are likely to dominate the industry in coming years.

Transportation is the single largest source of carbon emissions in the U.S., but it is followed closely by electricity generation.

So I'm going to have to buy an EV for every actual car I buy?

Has that old man sent his Vette to the scrap yard yet?

Is he getting his 10%?

Will the government then pay me a new battery when it stops working?

Will never happen, but Joe is too slow to know.

Making US more dependent on China who has the material and also skyrocketing electricity prices.

They better increase the distance I can drive and or reduce the charge time down to something comparable to gas engines.

Make it now.

Where is all the electricity going to come from to power this extra amount of cars

only the elites will drive. you can take public transportation with the junkies.

They'd have to be competitively priced again ICE vehicles and that may be hard to do without big government subsidies I don't mean tax breaks I mean subsidies many Americans can't even afford a new car

If you are making vehicles only a small segment of your market can afford how does that help climate change

You misspelled coal powered.

And where does POTUS believe he’a going to get the rare earth metals required to build EV’s when China halts exports?

Biden is doing the bidding of China, which holds massive amounts of the minerals needed for EVs. And China uses slave and child labor to mine those minerals.

Government: If we think it’s good for you we will force it down your throats.

The Government hates poor people.

Not a good sign for the mainstream appeal of electric vehicles if the Government has to force people to buy them

They will all be equipped so the government can shut them off remotely at any time for any reason. Complete control of your ability to go where you want, when you want. Tyranny

Moving to electric may or may not be a good idea. YMMV. But to mandate this to happen in seven years is lunacy.

And then when our Republican president is elected in less than 2 years I'm sure they will change that.

Ridiculous

Of course, China controls most of the crucial elements that go into the batteries. What could go wrong

China produces 70% of car lithium batteries & will make $ billions. U.S. spends $ billions to defend against China. 🤫

What power source charges EVs? Where does that come from? 🤔

I prefer the reliability of gas powered.

What power source charges EVs? Where does that come from? 🤔

Can 54% of Americans afford electric vehicles? I don’t think so…

Nothing says policy failure than trying to prohibit choice EV autos are not nearly as popular as the administration predicted, so instead of adjusting their policy they double down with stupidity EV sales will go up when the public has confidence in the ecosystem.

The good part of these agency regulations, a future administration can undo them.

EV's cost need to come way down Used batteries need to be much cheaper US needs to mine a TON more rare earth minerals or go all in on China and sub Saharan Africa. Homes, apartments need fast charging. None of this is within five years 😬

Keep it up dems , your just assuring a bigger Republican Majority next time around .Make it even harder for the American people why don't you .Your just helping us win the next election whoever is leader.

Like car prices aren't unreachable already to many Americans...

this will be tried in court and won't hold up. additionally people in power change all the time, changing the rules.
