Extending a downward trend to four years, Greater Sudbury saw a slight decrease in motor vehicle collisions last year.
The city’s five-year average reveals February to be the most dangerous month on city roads, netting 1,214 collisions, followed by 1,054 in January. April is the safest month, with 522 collisions.By hour of day, there are spikes in the number of collisions between 8-9 a.m. and 3-6 p.m., with the afternoon spike reaching the greatest number.
Since then, the city’s six red light cameras have resulted in the issuing of 1,920 tickets by the end of February, including: Last year saw the city add one kilometre of new sidewalk and 1.3 kilometres of cycling infrastructure, with another 2.33 kilometres of the Paris-Notre Dame Bikeway planned this year, bringing it up past the halfway point.
