'At the very least, we should have transportation options that don’t leave us exposed to disproportionately high risks of life-altering injury or death.'

“I’m not against active transportation but I am concerned about the number of roads that have been closed to vehicles over the last few months and even over the last couple of years,” Sutcliffe told CFRA’s Patricia Boal this past week. Not exactly a ringing endorsement of active transportation, is it?“The National Capital Commission has been closing more and more of its routes and some of that has created problems for the flow of traffic,” the mayor added.

But I was expecting better. Such as policies and programs that treat those of us who prefer not always using a car with the same consideration as drivers. It’s good, but not enough. Some of us want to use mixed transportation methods. Such as air-conditioned transit to work and a bike ride back home, where no one cares if we arrive sweaty and a touch dishevelled. To accomplish that you need to take your bike with you on the bus or train in the morning, which isn’t quite as much fun as it sounds.
