As the popularity of electric vehicles continues to rise, it seems that the government has taken note of the consumers' need to add a charging station at their landed homes and high-rise properties. That's right, looks like those staying at their apartments will be able to install EV charging stations too.
According to the Local Government Development Minister Nga Kor Ming, all EV owners can look forward to having electric vehicle charging bays in the future. Planning guidelines for EVCBs are in development and the government is planning to build 10,000 more across the nation by 2025. At the moment, there are 1267 EVCBs in total in shopping malls, hotels and resorts, and car showrooms.
Besides high-rise buildings and land homes, petrol stations and recreation areas are planned for installing EVCBs as well. This includes commercial and industrial areas, and institutions too. The guidelines stated that the areas must meet the minimum requirement of 2% EVCBs or at least one at a visitor parking area. Electric motorcycles are counted too.
Nga also said to make the EVCB approval process simpler, there will be a one-stop application by the local councils. It will take between 7 and 14 days, depending on the location, design and equipment of the EVCB. Of course, the installations must also comply with fire safety guidelines set by the Fire and Rescue Department.
