Scotland will have its first ban on pavement parking put in place in 2024, as the City of Edinburgh Council decided to crackdown on what many see as ‘nuisance’ parking.

The capital of Scotland is set to completely ban people from parking their cars on the pavement - with drivers potentially facing £100 fines if they do.

Parking had become one of the key issues for Edinburgh residents with the council describing it as a "persistent issue" on over 500 streets around the city. A big majority of residents - 68 per cent - have supported this parking ban, with pavement parking from cars and vans particularly causing trouble for disabled people and parents with pushchairs.

No additional staff have been recruited to help enforce the ban, with the council claiming that it wouldn't be necessary - as there are enough legal parking spaces across Edinburgh.
