Staff Reports Ariton overcame an early 3-0 Pike Liberal Arts lead with four straight run-scoring innings, including a six-run fourth inning, to hand the Patriots their first season loss with a 11-4 decision in a rematch of last year’s state quarterfinals.
Providence Christian 10, New Brockton 0: Providence Christian’s Porter Dykes pitched a five-inning no-hitter with five strikeouts and two walks on the pitching mound and was 2-for-3 with a homer and three runs batted in on offense to lead Providence Christian. Harrison Hicks and Grant Horne both added two hits on offense with Hicks driving in a run and Horne earning a double among the hits. Noah Miller had a two-run single and had a bases-loaded walk for an RBI. Eli Smith and Jack Alvord were both hit by a pitch with the bases loaded for a run batted in and Reid Underwood had an RBI ground out.
Austyn Miller was 3-for-4 with two doubles and two runs batted in and Klete Meadows was 3-for-4 with a run batted in to lead the Bears. Braylon Morris had two hits, including a triple, and an RBI. Ethan Simmons had a hit with two runs batted in and both Eli Jones and Kaiden Bedsole added a hit and RBI.
