JON JOHNSON The Houston Academy boys soccer team will enter a 17-day break on a high note after edging rival Providence Christian 1-0 Thursday night at the Westgate Complex.
“I got it and I turned, and I was looking for a pass and then I saw there was a little gap, so I just shot it,” Gil said.“Yeah, we had a lot more energy after that,” Gil said. “Any time we play Providence, it’s going to be a good match and we want to do our best.” “You know, my dad … who passed away almost a year ago … that’s where I get my passion from,” Fripp said. “But the very simplest of things he always used to say is soccer is a game of luck, and they just got lucky.
“But they’ve got to come play us at home for the last game of the season. So it’s still open, and that’s why we believe.” While Gil got the only goal of the game, there were plenty of outstanding performances for the Raiders, which included the fine play in goal of Charles McCarthy along with the other defenders.
