the electric-car giant unveiled details about its new Uber-like hailing service. Per the outlet, the service would be available through Telsa's app, which Tesla owners currently use for all vehicle functionality.
Business Insider reported that during first-quarter earnings presentation Tesla shared several screenshots which illustrate the interface that would allow users to do the following tasks:Track the vehicle's location on a 3D map.Per Business Insider, on the call, Elon Musk described Tesla's new business as a combination of both Airbnb and Uber.
"There will be some number of cars that Tesla owns itself and operates, a bunch where they are owned by the end user," Musk said, according to the outlet. Musk added that it would result in "tens of millions of cars" in a self-driving fleet providing Tesla with constant feedback when things go wrong, per Business Insider.Tesla has long discussed creating its own ride-hailing app to compete with both Waymo and Uber. Per the outlet, Tesla did not mention a timetable for rolling out the new service, as its launch would be dependent on Tesla perfecting its unsupervised self-driving software, something it has yet to do.
