Twenty automakers representing 98% of new vehicles sold have agreed to install reminders in an effort to stop heatstroke deaths.
Vehicles would give drivers audible and visual alerts to check back seats every time they turn off the ignition. Automakers say the voluntary agreement will get the alerts installed faster than a government regulation, which takes four to eight years.Several automakers already are offering such a feature. General Motors, for instance, has a reminder on all of its four-door sedans, trucks and SUVs starting with the 2019 model year. The system issues alerts if the rear doors were opened before the start of a trip. Hyundai has pledged to make a similar system standard on its vehicles by 2022.
Ridiculous that it’s come to this, when they don’t forget their phones.

Get rid of remote locking and tinted rear windows and this problem maybe goes away or gets better at least. The kids in the rear seat with rear-facing car seats is a big part of the problem too. I doubt that another beep will work all the time. There are just so many already.

I struggle how my husband can forget to.take his lunch going to work. I put my lunch and briefcase on my back seat and it's automatic I take them both out once I get to work. I don't need an alert in my car. People are too distracted.

I started my single dad journey of 17 years when my sons were 14 months old and 4 yrs old...NOT ONCE....NOT ONCE did I ever fail in my parenting to EVER come close to leaving my kids in the car by accident OR even just to go in a store real quick. I can't even process that.

If the manufacturer/authority is really serious...the cars should transmit an alarm to 911 etc., if there are any kids/pets left behind, So that the driver is investigated properly...
