Banning petrol and diesel cars will leave the Treasury short – the only answer is unpopular road pricing
I think the reason the 1.4 million uninsured drivers (according to insurance advertising) are not removed from the roads is because they don’t insure, MOT or road tax, but they do buy fuel. Happy days for HMRC. Also tax from increased premiums.
Its a mistake to include hybrid cars
There is no way the driver will end up with a good deal. Charging will be taxed to the hilt. Home chargers will be taxed to the hilt. Battery tax will be enormous. When batteries need replacing disposal of old one will be astronomically expensive. Then there will be road charging
You are using traditional thinking for a future challenge..lateral thinking required.
Driving taxes are a tax on mobility and aspiration and were only justifiable because of emissions. If carbon free driving hits the Treasury for £28bn, the only answer is to raise income tax to offset it, not to install a road tax.
Joining the EU would be very beneficial to our economy.
Just talk for the Greens.
The post brexit investment tsunami will swamp the coffers of the Treasury with money.
Brexit even more so
Why don't you make a battery that lasts a year and provide two?
There isnt enough cobalt in the world to build the batteries for every car on earth but they will try steal ot anyway tje imperialist thugs
Any idea what signing trade agreement with Oz, NZ and Canada will do to the climate ? Shipping all sorts of British shit to Southern Hemisphere rather than selling it to the French and Germans. Have everybody turned idiots
Stop HS2 and build power stations so to support the cessation of the petrol engine.
The car industry needs to re-build all their factories because of the global move away from oil ... some grand gestures now should keep the British ones safe and maybe attract some EU ones too ... we can adjust these “targets” later
Transfer funds from HS2. Which project should have the priority?
Pence per mile charge
Electric cars are NOT environmentally friendly
So I’m going to have to buy a new car and a new boiler, while at the same time skyrocketing energy bills as well as massive tax increases. All because of a get rich quick, climate hoax 🥴
Bollocks...how short does not collecting tax from the likes of amazon leave it?
Exactly, the UK can't ban petrol, it'll cripple the economy and for what? We're a tiny Island our pollution is extremely tiny in comparison to China and India who have no plans to ban petrol. Their economies will grow while we become a third World Country.
He's made these promises knowing he won't be there then to see it through.
And the rest!! What about the costs of upgrading the electricity network to cope with the extra demand. We would need extra power stations etc as well as all the charging points around the road network that need installing. The drop in taxes they currently take is only one issue.
Be the end of RVs/motorhomes - mind you, my RV will run on chip fat..I suppose that'll be verboten too?
Won't happen
Missing a few zeroes
johnmknox Yep here it comes - tax the gullible.
Get f*cked. You can take my petrol car from my cold dead hands.
Here we go....'V'
But aren't all of these electric cars useless😉?
Sack Grant Shapps.
Wow. Didn’t knew black holes contained money at all. What would supermassive black holes have then? Trillions of quids?
It's 15 years away. We have no idea what the treasury will depend upon in 2035.
Didn't realise the Marxists had won office 🙄
I would have thought that pricing popular roads would bring more revenue, but that’s just me.
Well it’s also not fair to those who had to buy petrol/diesel because they cannot afford a Tesla
